During lockdown, our estate manager, who does not have access to digital payments experienced a major problem. His and his family’s only form of entertainment is via pay TV where he went physically to the store once a month to pay a monthly premium which gave him access. With lock down, he clearly was unable to get to the store and was thus denied access to the only entertainment available to them.
In 2020, is this either fair or right? Denied access because he could not get to the relevant authorities to update his paperwork required by his bank!
If we are serious about the new digital world, it is going to take a collaborative effort by Government, Regulators, Bank and other FSP’s and Fintechs to ensure that we breach the digital divide and ensure that no one is excluded. What an opportunity!
